Bindi Irwin will soon make her film debut in ‘Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove’.
Bindi is the daughter of the late animal lover, activist, and handler Steve Irwin, more widely known as “The Crocodile Hunter”. Irwin made several appearances alongside her late father on his shows, before securing her own television spot, ‘Bindi the Jungle Girl’.
The 11 year old Irwin will star in the flick as an Australian helping to free the famed orca whale, which is being held captive in South Africa. Although she admits to having been nervous about filming, Irwin says that she often watched rerun episodes of her father’s show on Animal Planet before filming.
“He’s my hero,” she says. “I want to carry on in his footsteps and pick up where he left off.”
Irwin also received some assistance from a co-star, veteran actor Beau Bridges, who coached her in person, as well as through providing her reading and audio material on acting.
In addition to her acting role, Irwin is in the process of petitioning to save the wildlife preserve that her father fought so desperately to keep alive and thriving. The preserve is in the process of being made accessible to miners.
