At just 30 years old, Chris Daughtry has placed fourth place in the American Idol fifth season finals, is the third most successful American Idol contestant as far as record sales, is the front man for a popular band who has the distinction of holding the fastest selling rock record in history, and is about to become a Dad, again. Rocker Chris and his wife Deanna are expecting twins late this year, bringing Chris’ total number of children to four.

Winning American Idol has launched the career of hit makers Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, both of whom won first place in the competition. But Chris holds a certain distinction among American Idol alumni in that he is the most commercially successful Idol contestant to not have won the top title; fourth place aside, Chris is no loser when it comes to success in his musical career and his family life.

Chris and his wife of nine years, already parents of two children together, have gone through extensive fertility treatments since his wife had a partial hysterectomy in 2006. Now through the wonders of IVF, Chris and Deanna have had their own embryos transferred into a surrogate who will carry the child to term.

Enjoying continued success, Daughtry has the further distinction of having his band’s debut album reach #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, an honor so far earned by only four other American Idol contestants, three of whom were first place winners. When commenting about the impending birth of his twins, Daughtry wrote, “Deanna and I are overjoyed about this double blessing.”
